There are three categories for nomination for the Vodacom Women in The Media 2009 Awards:

  1. Rising Star Award – must be a young woman under 30 who is making a real mark in the media industry and is someone to watch for the future.
  2. Lifetime Achievement Award – a woman who has served the industry well over the span of a remarkable career and who has left, or is leaving, a legacy and heritage of achievement. The Lifetime Achievement Award is only presented when appropriate
  3. Woman in The Media 2009 – we choose one winner from a short list of finalists. These woman are remarkable role players in the media industry. Nomination criteria include milestones and achievements in their sector over the last 18 months, and highlights of the nominee's career. Women from media houses, publishers, executive management, research companies, editors and journalists, non-governmental organizations, and other media-related activities will be considered by The Media’s Editorial Board.
